Highlights
The M/V Solmar V liveaboard is a staple for diving in the Socorro Islands. With over 25 years of experience and known for having the most experienced dive liveaboard crew in Mexico, the Solmar V caters to 22 guests in 12 cabins. With recent refurbishing and massive upgrades, the SolmarV offers the choice of Staterooms, superior, standard, and single cabin options for solo travelers. Each stateroom features individual climate control, a private bathroom with a shower, a pillow-top mattress, non-allergenic down alternative pillows, and comforters. Superior cabins are located in the middle of the boat and are slightly larger. With its rich mahogany and granite tabletops, the salon provides comfortable seating, a large-screen television, and a full entertainment system. The solarium is partially covered with sun loungers for relaxing in between dives.
The Solmar V offers exciting dive itineraries with some of the world's giant pelagics, from Giant Mantas to whale sharks and humpback whales. The Revillagigedo Archipelago offers all the big-fish encounters a diver could wish for. With over 10 shark species, playful dolphins, and even the chance to dive with orcas, the Socorro Islands will deliver a dive trip to remember for a lifetime. Great diving, great crew, but the boat wasn’t the best.
The diving was great and the crew was super friendly and hard working. They definitely went above and beyond to make the trip enjoyable. We saw the giant mantas on nearly every dive as well as tons of sharks and the famously friendly dolphins which came and interacted with the group while on the dives. There were humpbacks all around the boat though we never saw them on dives. The dive guides were all first rate and did a great job of leading us on safe dives where we got to experience the wonder that is the Revillagigedo Archipelago The downside is that the Solmar V is definitely showing its age. The rooms are very small with not enough space for more than one person to be in there at a time. Unfortunately our room had a leaky shower which meant the carpet was wet when we got in there and stayed wet for the whole trip. This meant we had to keep The A/C on all the time to keep the room from smelling of mildew which made the room really cold.

Beyond my wildest dreams!
OMG, is such an understatement! I just returned from diving in the Revillagigedo Archipelago aboard the Solmar V. Beyond my wildest dreams! This was SCUBA, that I grew up watching Jaques Cousteau dive. Beautiful Giant Pacific Manta Rays on almost every dive. Schools of Hammerhead Sharks. Playful Bottlenose Dolphins. World class diving. The Divemasters! Mariana Danny & Servando were the best. Under the water and above. Such hard working fabulous folks. The whole crew was great. The stewards, Idris & Dani were everywhere! Hot tea, hot chocolate after dives, fabulous & attentive. Oue chef, Claudia was a rock star. I like GOOD food, hers is the best! All day, everyday. Four of us celebrated birthdays while on board. She made special birthday celebration deserts for each. The Captain Armando, always available for information or a hand betting up from the banga boat after your dive. I could go on and on about each crew member. I will never forget them. I absolutely need to thank Luis! Helping haul my waterlogged self, back into the banga after EVERY dive, thank you sir! What about the other divers! 20 other divers from all over the world, such wonderful, beautiful people. I deal with significant hearing difficulties and everyone, guests and crew were the best, patient and took time to sincerely chat with me. Thank you ALL for helping fulfill a lifelong dream. Love you all. Pete

Amazing wildlife great crew
Amazing experience had a great time. Diving masters were awesome! Chef cooked great meals. Service was amazing. Main issues I had was the nitrox compressor membrane failed so we were unable to dive nitrox that limited our dives and was unfortunate, knowing that we paid more for nitrox and never had a refund. The ship needed a little care on safety for slip hazards and the top deck lounge chairs were broken. Besides that the dive sites were great wildlife and encounters were worth it and that’s what I was there for! Will go back again soon!

First Socorro trip of the Season
Diving was great, boat crew very courteous, food was nice and DM’s were safe and fun to dive with. Boat is old and needs much work to clean it up. I was on the first trip of the season, the compressor broke down, one panga had leaks and would not hold air, water leaked into several cabins and there was black mold visible in several areas.

Our first liveaboard offered unforgettable diving with abundant marine life and a friendly crew, but it was marred by inconsistent dive instruction, poor pre-trip communication, and a ship that didn’t
The Diving The diving was incredible! We were absolutely amazed by the abundance of marine life—huge schools of fish, close encounters with sharks, graceful mantas, and even playful dolphins. It truly felt like we were immersed in another world, and those moments will stick with us forever. The Crew and Staff The crew and staff were a highlight of the trip. They were friendly, professional, and did their best to make sure we were comfortable and having a good time. Their hard work and enthusiasm were definitely appreciated. Dive Instruction One area of mixed feelings was the dive instruction. While some instructors were exceptional—knowledgeable, patient, and safety-focused—others fell noticeably short. This inconsistency was surprising and something we hadn’t anticipated. Food Onboard The fresh fruit and vegetables served onboard were a pleasant surprise. Meals were generally enjoyable, and it was great to have healthy, refreshing options after long days in the water. The Ship While we loved the diving and the people, we felt the ship itself didn’t live up to expectations, especially considering the price. For the cost, we expected better facilities and overall quality. Pre-Trip Communication Our biggest frustration was the poor communication leading up to the trip. There were multiple schedule changes and a lack of clear updates, which caused unnecessary stress and made planning difficult. Final Thoughts Despite a few shortcomings, we had an amazing experience, especially in the water. However, for the price, we would have hoped for more consistent dive instruction, better pre-trip communication, and a higher-quality vessel. If you’re considering this liveaboard, weigh the cost against your expectations and go for the diving—it’s truly unforgettable!
