Enjoyable trip with POP
Overall, the trip was enjoyable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and consistently willing to help. The speedboat tour around Wayag was amazing, as were the trekking and visits to Piaynemo and Arborek Island. The food was varied and well-prepared. Our dive guide put in a lot of effort to find interesting marine life for us to see. However, dive organization could be improved; different groups sometimes ended up in the same area, making it crowded underwater. Additionally, some maintenance on the boat would enhance the experience, as water occasionally entered the dining area during rain, and the bathroom door had visible black mold. Flies got into our cabin at one point, but Rahma from housekeeping promptly took care of it. Lastly, some wet paint on the speedboat transferred to my drysuit and pants, but the crew quickly covered the area with towels to prevent further issues.

Wonderful liveaboard with VIP service!!
10/10 liveaboard!!! The crew set up and broke down our gear and all we had to do was double check gear and walk to tender boat. We never had to lift or carry tanks. VIP service! Crew likes their job and it shows. Boat owner, Yayu, was with us on trip and was so friendly and fun to get to know. Arif, the cruise director was excellent and also very fun. We did misool area of raja which has incredible corals, both soft and hard. If you want to see more sharks and overall marine life, try central and north raja. Weather was rainy in morning and evening in early December. Weather was better in February. Me and everyone on board are already planning our next liveaboard on pearl of papua. Awesome experience!!!!!

Excellent value, great dive operation and healthy reef sites
My family of 4 did the 8D/7N Northern Raja Ampat cruise in June 2024 on the Pearl of Papua (POP). June is not peak Raja Ampat diving so most of the Raja Ampat liveaboards boats were in Komodo. Consequently we only saw a few other dive skiffs which were operated from local island resorts. The Pearl of Papua is a great mid level dive boat, attentive crew, efficient dive operations. Food is plentiful, tasty and varied. Lots of covered space on two levels of fore deck. Dive operation is well run, indvidual baskets for your gear and all your gear put on the 2 dive skiffs so you just have to grab your wetsuit and mask and get on the skiff. Dives at 7:00, 11:00, 15:00 with a multiple night dive options. 2 rinse showers and camera/gear rinse tanks on fantail. Hot water showers in en-suite bathrooms, A/C in all rooms, Highly recommend the Sea View cabins. For ~$200 more than the cheapest bunkbed cabin, you get a much larger room with a full 180 degree glass view. Quite spectacular, the best cabins we've ever had. POP requests that you do battery charging in the main salon so bring 2 AC charge adapters (European style) one to use while in your room and one for the charging station. Diving was very good but mostly overcast skies so not the best visibility. Varied dive sites, some high current dives, saw all the hoped for critters (mantas, woebegone & epaultette sharks, reef sharks, turtles, bumpheads, cuttlefish, etc). Healthy reefs with lush corals and clouds of fish, very high bio-diversity. The Pearl of Papua visited the famous sites in northern Raja Ampat, had good food and efficient diving operations; overall an excellent value.

Found the joy of diving because of my experience with Pearl of Papau
My wife and I had a wonderful experience with Pearl of Papau. The dive guides are remarkable at spotting the small reef fishes the size of a rice grain and there isn’t a moment I felt unsafe with my dive guide diving with me. Yayu the cruise director will look after you like a guardian. She made sure we were comfortable and everyday she will review the weather and alternate our plans to take advantage of the current to see the sea creatures.
