Good Food; Limited Diving
This is an older boat. Finishes are tired but serviceable. Comfortable beds, but very cozy cabins. I'm glad I didn't share mine. Good common areas (salon/top deck). No camera tables. Only diving 2-3 times per day - mostly 2 - because of tank fill times and sometimes tides. Viz was not great January 2026. No nitrox on board, but you probably don't need it because this is not a dive heavy cruise. Short tank fills for most dives (2750PSI). GREAT satellite wifi. That was a surprise and a definite bonus. Dive guide was OK. Had to explain to him why to NOT touch the marine life (petting eels, gripping coral, sitting on the reef). I don't think it was fully understood or if he understood, he didn't care to break his habits. Also, the boat captain gave the dive briefings. Either the dive guide (who I think said he was an instructor) wasn't listening to the briefings or just decided to do his own thing, because even though we talked about following the dive plan and gave specific instances where the plan was not followed on prior dives, it continued to happen. My group is experienced so we were able to care for ourselves, but when the briefing says 20 meters and 3/5 people ended up doing Deco stops because the actual depth MID-DIVE was 44 meters - that could be a problem. We finally just let him go do his thing and followed our plan on our own. The diving was not challenging, but less experienced divers could find themselves in situations that are not safe. We ended up telling a newer diver that she was probably safer hanging out with us underwater rather than following the guide. The coral wasn't super-healthy and that's sad given the remote location. Lots of fishing line and abandoned nets in the water. Good amount of fish. No sharks while diving. A few whale sharks snorkeling. PRO-TIP: If the purser tries to talk to you through your cabin door after you go to bed, GET UP! It's because whale sharks are feeding at the boat lights. I rented a BCD and reg, and it was newer with no issues. Bring your own drinks if you want to imbibe. Large pod of dolphins at the beginning of the cruise and a breaching marlin mid-cruise. Beautiful sunsets. Recommend having a day or two on either side of the cruise. The surface topography is varied and interesting. Worth seeing if you make the trip to dive. Recommend reaching out to the boat operator (not Liveaboard) prior to the trip to verify if you want transfers and if the boat will invite you to board early or stay later than planned. Both were possible for our cruise but the communication came too late to be of any benefit. The crew was always smiling and helpful. The chef did amazing things with very simple and healthy ingredients. Water temp was 79F to 82F and I didn't need a wet suit. Others wore 3mil or less. We did not follow the published itinerary so ended up diving some of the same locations multiple times. That was fine as they were the better sites we experienced. Overall, it was a relaxing, slow paced trip. Am I glad I went? Yes. Would I go again? No.

Unexpectedly good.
This was my first liveaboard, so i was not sure what to expect, but the crew was extremely friendly and helpful, the food was amazing and i was upgraded to be alone in cabin, since the tour was not full. We had 2 dives per day plus one night dive and snorkeling with whale sharks two of the days although we only found them one of the days (first day we also found them, but they dove really quickly). The diving was good, there was a lot of plancton, so visibility was sometimes challenging but i enjoyed it nevertheless. Water was warm 27-28 C. The Gulf of Tadjoura felt very safe with military helicopters/plains occasionally in view.
