Would recommend as a backpacker boat. Careful about self-guided dives.
It's a backpacker boat as far as LOBs go, but a great one for a great price. However, rooms are freezing cold, bedding isn't too comfortable and you can't change the aircon temperatures. Our boat had many new students so guides were mostly occupied and certified divers had to dive without guides. The navigation wasn't too difficult but aside from attention going into navigation rather than exploring the surroundings, newer divers are also not as experienced in spotting creatures and only see big obvious stuff. Night dive without guide, with self-navigation, was a mess all round. Great service and nice staff, but boat was very understaffed and they were worked to the bone. Food was excellent, but often a little insufficient compared to other LOBs I've been on.

We would definitely recommend Pro Dive Cairns
The crew worked hard and were clearly on tight but well managed schedule. Anytime they weren’t preparing for teaching diving they were cleaning putting away gear and setting up for the next activity. The meals were incredible and there was a lot of food for as many people that were on that boat. They took diver safety very seriously as they should.

Pro review, MUST READ BEFORE YOU BOOK
As a dive professional and dive center owner with extensive experience, I’ve always been fascinated by the Great Barrier Reef. When I discovered the Pro Cairns diving trip, I was excited to experience it firsthand. This review is intended to offer honest insights, especially for divers with less than 30 dives. While seasoned divers may find it less relevant, it could be helpful for those newer to the sport. 1. Booking & Paperwork The booking process was smooth, and the team was proactive in providing all necessary information. There were no complications, and communication was efficient. 2. Pickup & Dropoff Pickup was punctual, and the transfer from the hotel to the dive shop was seamless. However, don’t expect assistance with luggage; the driver does not offer help, which might be inconvenient for those traveling with heavier gear. 3. Arrival at the Dive Shop The staff at the dive shop were welcoming and professional. They offer luggage storage, which is a thoughtful convenience for travelers carrying multiple bags. 4. The Boat After checking in, we were transported to the pier where the dive boat awaited. The boat itself is spacious, clean, and accommodates over 22 divers along with the crew. The onboard rooms were tidy, though the below-deck cabins were noticeably humid—a typical condition on older boats, though more modern vessels may have better ventilation. The rooftop was particularly enjoyable, offering plenty of space for briefings and relaxation between dives. 5. Welcome Briefing Upon boarding, we were given a welcome briefing by the captain and dive manager, Parker. Each diver was assigned a number, which helped with organization. Unfortunately, this is where the experience began to falter. The team’s energy felt lackluster, with some members noticeably absent from the briefing. It was apparent that enthusiasm was lacking, which gave off the impression of a routine process rather than a warm introduction to the trip. 6. Journey to Dive Sites The sea conditions during our trip were rough, and the boat’s movement reflected that. If you’re prone to seasickness, be prepared. The crossing was more turbulent than expected, which could be uncomfortable for some. 7. The Diving Experience Each dive was preceded by a site briefing by Parker, which provided useful information on navigation. The dives are unguided, though a guide may join you if one is available. During our dives in August, the water temperature was 22°C, and visibility was below average. While there were some vibrant corals, the overall experience was underwhelming, especially for more experienced divers. For beginners, however, it provides a good introduction to open water diving. Night dives, in particular, were disorganized, leading to confusion and new divers getting lost. While it may sound amusing, it’s a situation that could have been handled better with more structured guidance. 8. The Staff This, unfortunately, was a major disappointment. The majority of the crew appeared disengaged and unprofessional. Of particular note were two female instructors who seemed indifferent to the passengers, barely interacting with anyone onboard. Throughout the trip, they were largely absent except for dives or meals, spending most of their time in their cabins. Parker, the dive manager, was more approachable but shared the same aloof attitude when it came to mingling with guests. The lack of interaction from the staff significantly detracted from the overall experience. 9. Dive Sites The dive sites themselves were close together, with the boat only moving short distances between them. We visited three sites, but there wasn’t much variety in the underwater scenery. For new divers, this may still be exciting, but for those with more experience, the sites may feel repetitive and underwhelming. 10. Final Briefing & Departure At the end of the trip, Parker conducted a final debrief and provided review forms. The process was straightforward, though it did litt

3 Day liveaboard in the GBR
Overall it was a good experience. The boat was quite crowded with not a lot of space to hang out. For 3 days that's okay, but wouldn't work for a longer stay.
