Adventure Cruises in La Digue

La Digue Seychelles is the third most populated island in your island hopping adventure and one of the jewels in the crown of any Indian Ocean cruise. Geographically, La Digue is northeast of Madagascar and east of Kenya. The natives showcase island living in all of its laid back glory and you are invited to see for yourself. Explore the island itself or the sea and if you’re lucky, you’ll see one of the famous oxen carts during a bicycle tour.

Because of the interesting geographical history of Seychelles, many of the animals on La Digue aren’t found anywhere else outside of the island chain. This interesting ecosystem brings many travelers to the decision to sail Seychelles and visit La Digue.

Top things to do and see in La Digue

The Anse Source d’ Argent beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world and certainly in Seychelles. It is exactly what you picture when you think of a white sand beach. The vegetation is lush surrounding the brilliant white sand and it’s easy to see fish and sea turtles in the water, even without a snorkel. It can get busy and vanishes in high tide, so timing is everything. If it’s crowded when you arrive, continue on past the cove to the larger bay to experience a little alone time with nature.

La Passe and La Reunion beaches are also on the west coast of the island near Anse Source d’Argent. They have similarly shallow waters and are rewarding to explore.

Fun in the sun including bicycle tours, kayaking, snorkeling, and Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) which is a favorite in Seychelles. Hire a bike and set out on a path into and around the rich tropical landscape for a wildlife sighting. Be on the look out for the critically endangered paradise flycatcher, giant Aldabra tortoises, Seychelles coconut crab, fodys, sunbirds, terns, fruit bats, sheath-tailed bats, and geckos. The black parrot that lives in the islands is extremely rare and worth a stop to photograph if you encounter one.

In the sea you could spot green sea turtles, butterfly fish, eagle rays, moray eels, and even even a blacktip reef shark or whale shark.

Best time to cruise La Digue

What’s the best time to visit La Digue during your Seychelles Island hopping?

Hiking is best in La Digue during the Southeast Monsoon season from May to October. There is less rainfall and warm temperatures for exploring the landscape and beaches.

In November things begin to change during a pre-Northwest Monsoon season. The weather is still warm but growing wetter through December where the rain increases, but the beauty of the tropical vegetation is at its height. It’s also cyclone season, but La Digue lies outside the cyclone belt and won’t be affected.

La Digue in April is the best snorkeling and swimming weather because the air and water are calm with good visibility. Guests report great snorkeling year round, however, and particularly through July.

Coming to La Digue to see wildlife? You’ll have a great number of animals to see no matter what time you visit.

Where do La Digue cruises depart from?

For most Seychelles small ship cruises you will fly in to the Seychelles International Airport on Mahé. Consult your cruise itinerary for the port you will ultimately depart from: Inter Island Quay, Mahé, or Anse Possession, Praslin. If you need to arrange for a domestic flight from Mahé to Praslin, you’ll be able to connect at Seychelles International.

Your crew will meet you at the airport to escort you and your belongings to the boat to prepare for boarding.

We did independent activities (climbing the hill, cycling). The weather was very poor that day, so our experience was not typical.
