Great tour of the Western Galapagos aboard EcoGalaxy

We did Itinerary B, a 6-day/4-night cruise aboard the EcoGalaxy in Aug 2022 and had an amazing time. Boat was well-appointed with plenty of space both in staterooms and public areas. Crew was friendly, welcoming, and took great care of us. Excellent food + cocktails. I liked how itinerary B took us to the western islands (Isabella + Fernandina) where we saw only 2-3 other boats per day. Each day was action-packed with hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, and Panga tours -- all led by our knowledgeable guide. Highlights for me were the snorkeling trips. We snorkeled twice per day and each trip was incredible. We swam with tons of sea turtles and marine iguanas, and beautiful tropical fish of every size and color. A few times, we got to swim with playful sea lions, penguins, pelicans, flightless cormorants, and even sharks (not scary ones). We kayaked once which was fun, and daily hikes enabled us to see hawks, flamingoes, land iguanas and tortoises, penguins, boobies, and of course more sea lions and marine iguanas. When these activities were done, the crew was fast at shuttling us back to the EcoGalaxy where there were always snacks, beverages, and showers waiting for us. And while the daily schedule is packed, there is also downtime to shower, read, and take a nap.

Thhis is the BEST boat because it has the largest cabins and an astounding crew/passenger ratio.

Seeing the animals in their wild lives was stunning: boobies, flamingoes, tortoises, iguanas, sea lions and schools of underwater fish.

Fabulous experience on every level

We had a fabulous time on Eco Galaxy. The rooms were really spacious and comfortable. Food was very good and beautifully presented with lots of Ecuadorian influences. The daily activities with the guide were a highlight. Guide was knowledgeable and the activities were incredibly well organized with high attention to safety. All the equipment was high quality and in excellent condition. The organized activities were early in the day and later in the day which left time for lunch and relaxing in the middle of the day. We had some amazing experiences seeing the animals and the snorkeling was magical. Be aware that on this itinerary you see the giant tortoises on the last morning at the Darwin Center on Santa Cruz. We stayed on an extra day on Santa Cruz and took a taxi to see them at one of the ranches in the highlands too which we were glad we did but then you have to make your own way to the airport the next day, which is easy enough to do. Crew were very friendly and attentive. There was a great sense of community with the other passengers. I liked that it was a small group of 16 people. Overall this was a truly special trip. One thing to be aware of is that the crossings between islands at night can be quite choppy. Several people got some sea sickness even when they had not suffered from it in the past. Boat provided sea sickness medication but you have to be able to keep it down so take before you start the crossing or start to feel sick or consider bringing some prescription patches if you can tolerate them. I am very prone to sea sickness but had no problem using a patch.
