One Person Can Have An Impact
Actually, we were disappointed in the variety of food although it was of excellent quality. Spending 1.5+ hours at a border crossing was horrible We should have been told of the level of physical activity required for the excursions by the Cruise Director Overall, the Cruise Director was a disappointment

- Quality of food provided (but not the variety). Excellent serving and cabin staff. Time to relax although the tours kept us busy.

Short changed
Apart from the crew and food the boat was old and tired. There are numerous maintenance issues that need attention. Ie. when we boarded, one of the 2 swim ladders was not working. After 3 days the other ladder broke and we could no longer have any swim stops which were one of the highlights. We also experienced some of the lights in casing randomly flashing on and off in the early hours of the morning. The blinds on the windows were also transparent at night. Also the equipment on board also needs attention. There was only 1 swimming mask that worked. The straps on the others were broken. The snorkels also leaked and were unusable. We were also told that we could not sail to Kotor because of the weather. The captain told us that the weather would prohibit us from sailing to Kotor, however the weather looked fine and we strongly feel that this was a cost saving exercise by the ship at our expense. So after spending the night in Slano we were put on a bus that took 3.5 hrs to get into Montenegro and then on a very slow moving boat which took another 2 hrs to get to Kotor. A quick lunch and cable car ride and we were back to the bus for another 3 hr + ride which took us to Dubrovnik. So we missing the tour of the old city altogether. So our last day of actual cruising was on day 4. For what we paid, we feel like we were short changed. Happy to discuss and expand further if you want to contact me.

Best way to experience this piece of the world.
Seeing Kotor Bay was interesting and the mountains impressive. Going in to Mostar, Bosnia-Herzagovina was very different from the other Croatian Islands, so a nice contrast to Hvar and Korcula. The swim stops along the way were very fun. The food on the boat was plentiful and beautifully presented, and we loved the swordfish and sea bass best. Our cruise director provided lots of historical background which we found fascinating.

Deferred maintenance-- it is a 60+ year old ship and although it was renovatedin 2017, there were issues. Door handles falling off, non-working toilets, scanty masks & swim stop rquipment, & finally
There are safety and maintenance issues on this boat. The captain hit something backing out of port and broke the one working swim ladder and I'm not sure what else, but the smell of diesel was very strong. Snorkel and masks were in rough shape, 1 working mask for 36 passangers. There was one demonstration of how to put on a life vest, no lifeboat or evac talk. At one point in port, when we were not a pass thru ship, the doorway next to the stars was left open and unattended. Someone could have easily missed the turn and gone overboard. All in all the food was excellent, most of the crew did a good job but a first mate would have helped. Seemed somewhat understaffed. Need more potable water sources onboard. If you're going to give out water bottles, make sure they're insulated. Less harsh lighting in the cabin, would've been nice. Window shades could be darker and not allow outside people to peer into the boat while you're dressing or trying to sleep

Fun friendly holiday
In spite of weather being difficult, it made itinerary a bit hectic for our age group, but enjoyable. Food wonderful and great Captains dinner, dancing etc.

A great experience
Overall, I felt we lucked-out: we had a great tour manager, crew and fellow guests. Its a beautiful part of the world to visit. The food was great; all members of the crew were helpful. While there are slightly more luxurious boats around the Stella Maris was more than adequate for our needs. It would have been nice had we left port later each morning in order to be able to explore the islands. Swim-stops formed a large part of most days. two of the local guides were below par. That said we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would throughly recomend it.

An Adriatic cruise I would do again (with minor modifications).
A really enjoyable and thoughtfully planned itinerary from Split to Dubrovnik, with highlights being Hzar, Korcula, Kotor and Dubrovnik. Unfortunately, our swim stops were limited by poor weather for two days, but where we were able to stop, this was a great experience. Excursions included to the main cities were well organised and informative. However, the two longer trips (to Mostar and to the interior of Montenegro) required long bus journeys - I would definitely have not included the Montenegro visit. The ship and the cabins were comfortable, although cabin space was tight, and there is some wear and tear visible. The outside sun deck was a great place to relax. Arranging for the spa to be made available, however, required daily requests to the crew, rather than it being set up each morning as part of their routine. Meals, which were mainly breakfast and lunch, were generally tasty and of good quality. However, there was no choice of main course, which would have been appreciated. Even the option of a good salad bar would have made a difference. Whilst the cook also tried to cater to my eating restrictions, some of the options provided did not take them into account, and a serving of fruit for dessert as an alternative became boring quite quickly. Drinks were expensive (as was expected) with a strict ban on bringing alcohol on board from outside. Our tour leader, Anita, together with Princess, Ela and Katerina were each delightful in their own way. The captain and his boat crew did an efficient job (aside from the spa availability), and the cook and her assistant worked hard to provide good quality meals, which were much appreciated. The other guests were easy to get along with, and the number on board meant that it was possible to get to know almost everyone to a greater of lesser degree.
